Well the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard was a memorable experience. Everything from the normalest (if that's even a word) to some of the weirdest people I have ever seen in my life. Nevertheless it was memorable.

It was especially memorable for my father-in-law Gary. He has been a huge Nascar fan for the longest time. Ever since I've known him he has always been very interested. It has been through our relationship that I have gotten into the sport. It was memorable for him as it was his first time to go to a live event. In the past he has always enjoyed the events from the comfort of his air conditioned living room armchair.

Well, this weekend, no more ... we made the decision to actually go to the event and cheer for our favorite driver (Jeff Gordon ... doh! I mean Dale Jr :-) ).

It was a special event for me as well given that I have lived in Indianapolis my whole life and NEVER went to any of the races ... can you believe it? Well, it's true.

Rob was a trooper and had a good time as well. He had a little bit of trouble with his foot, the one he broke late last year. It wasn't much to do with what they did surgery on but rather the in-grown toenail he is trying to get rid of.

Well, enough about the experience there ... let's let the next few pictures tell the rest of the story:

It is 8:22AM EDT in beautiful Indianapolis. We (everybody but Rob) have been up for the last couple of hours and are all cleaned up and revving our engines getting ready for the race!

Gary (my father-in-law) is downstairs whipping up some biscuits and gravy for breakfast. The smell is almost intoxicating as it is wofting upstairs.

We are planning on leaving here about 9:45 so we are able to get to the airport early enough to catch the bus down to the track. Then we are going to take in all of the sights, sounds, smells, and heat and enjoy the race.

I'll follow-up later today with some pictures from the race. Stay tuned!
